It really helped me understand the material a lot. Throughout the book, the context and the validity domain for any equation derived are clearly stated. It’s not an ASM Handbook by any means, but it is more practical than Morse and Ingard, has more drawings and diagrams, and I was surprised to find one of the cleanest, acoutics descriptions of Bessel functions I’ve seen yet.
The second part of the book is devoted to a more rigorous development of the wave equation, spherical and cylindrical waves including the more advanced mathematics requiredadvanced waveguides, baffled piston radiation, diffraction treated in the time domainand arrays.

Nefelovatissa marked it as to-read Jul 12, But then I needed something more complicated, so I bought Morse and Ingard, which was way too much.

Toryn Green added it Oct 21, It does everything from the wave equation, uses the calculus of variations, and some concepts in Real Analysis to reach the linear wave equation; mixes it up, with the conservation of mass, energy and heat transfer to derive the wave equation. The book reflects his professional path in acoustics.

Love it, especially since it’s so hard to find a good book with basics that is not telling tale-tells but also not blacksstock to explain assumptions and “take-for-granted” stuff!
