These postscripts tell the story behind the stories that millions of readers have come to know and cherish. To scoff is also easy, but to go on in the face of scoffing and to do what is right is the way of a man.

But I think L’Amour wanted to leave the bendig open ended. When you crank out books that fast, it’s no surprise that certain inconsistencies get overlooked.

Probably, he figured his audience wouldn’t go for a novel that didn’t have tons of gunplay to offset xhafter more realistic and mundane aspects of frontier life.

A bonus for fans of the Sacketts — a seemingly peripheral Sackett is actually central to the success of the tale. Bendigo Shafter is a action filled novel with a lot of obstacles like harsh winters, Indian raids, and the outlaws that drifted into their town that Bendigo Shafter and his friends have to face.
