In this novel, we get to meet, and absorb new characters, and bit players to date become far more developed. Fans of alternate history and military sf should enjoy this rousing tale of adventure and intrigue. At the same time, the group hopes to establish commercial ties with Turkey’s Ottoman Empire, then at the height of its power.

I’m obviously poorly informed on the subject and no more enlightened by reading three books on the subject so I prefer calling the series the “Ring of Fire” since it was called that before and it makes some sense to me after reading the first book.

This is a good choice for fans of alternative history, although those who prefer the more serious work of Harry Turtledove may find it too upbeat for their taste. The Americans are divided on whether to help him or stop him—and whether he succeeds or fails, the results may be catastrophic for the CPE. This book deserves maybe three and one half stars.
The rest of the book was pretty good though. University of Washington University Glileo. Of course the base premises are not really plausible with a whole town transplanted years backwards in time, but I think that humans will remain humans, and this book seems more like slapstick at times, and humans are way too one dimensional.
It follows the activities of an embassy party sent from the United States of Europe Grantville to VeniceItaly, where the three young Stone brothers become involved with the local Committees of Correspondence and the Inquisition ‘s trial of Galileo Galilei. 1643 skipped it and read book 3, but the writing style didn’t grab me as much as the first book and I’d definitely missed gwlileo lot of plot from skipping a book.
While I find the whole series pretty dense with politics galioeo huge numbers of minor if historically major characters and The plot of “The Galileo Affair” 4th or 5th or something in the series follows the USE embassy to Venice, where Tom “Stoner” Stone’s sons find themselves quickly involved with the local “Committee of Correspondence” and without really intending to find that they’re planning a raid to rescue Galileo from the clutches of the Inquisition.
The third novel in this wonderful series. I liked it and I would read it again.
